SHE AIN'T NO PRINCESS, BUT IT'S GOOD TO SEE HER

13/2/12
The rescue tug 'Anglian Earl' is spending a short time stationed in the bay, where we became so used to seeing her sister ship the 'Anglian Princess'. These priceless SAR assets were axed from secondment to the MCA as part of the Govermnment cost cutting programme.

TOWER CALLED FOR ASSISTANCE

11/2/12
When the Marazion gig 'Breeze' ran aground on Hogus Rocks, this was spotted by watchkeeper Stephen Gardiner, who was then asked by Falmouth Coastguard to monitor the coordinated recovery operation by other gigs, the Penlee Inshore Lifeboat, and the Penzance Auxiliary Coastguard. All went well and Stephen received a call from the Coastguard thanking him for his co-operation. Penzance NCI In the right spot at the right time again!

DEDICATION OF NEW VESSEL TRACKING SYSTEM

A new vessel identification and tracking system has been installed and dedicated to the memory of former Station Manager Bryan Jackson, who died last year. A commemorative brass plaque was presented to his widow, Jane, by NCI National President Jon Gifford. Funds for the equipment came from donations in lieu of flowers received at Bryan's funeral, and the operating software was donated by our Sponsor, DIGIBOAT. FOR FULL STORY AND PHOTO SEE NEWSLETTER

CERTIFICATES OF EXCELLENCE

Certificates of Excellence were presented by Station Manager Brian Ellis to two of our watchkeepers, Dave Pryor and Peter Mitchell, in recognition of "watch-keeping at its best" when they spotted two men fighting in an open boat and acted "..in the best traditions of NCI, spotting plotting and reporting with speed and accuracy." The emergency services were alerted and a man was subsequently arrested and charged. FOR FULL STORY AND PHOTO SEE NEWSLETTER

NEW APPOINTMENTS

We are delighted to confirm the appointments of Peter Mitchell as Training Manager, Darren Poffley as Health & Safety / Premises Manager, and Louise A'Barrow as Fund Raising Manager and warmly thank them for giving up their time to undertake these demanding but very necessary roles.

FIRST SOCIAL EVENING A SUCCESS

Many of us with our partners met up for an informal social evening, the first such event for a number of years. Since watchkeepers rarely see each other 'en bloc', this proved an ideal opportunity to meet unfamiliar faces in a relaxed atmosphere, and everyone seemed to enjoy it. Glasses didn't stay empty for long, and we are grateful to the team at the Sir Humphry Davey for making us so welcome. We are hoping we might be able to make this a quarterly event.
